The Papa Emeritus IV Jacket – A Sparkling Challenge in Cosplay Craftsmanship
Hey there, fabric fiends and fellow creators! It’s Katie, back with another deep dive into the madness and magic of custom costume making. This one? Oh, this one was a beast—but in the best way possible. Let me introduce you to my latest creation: the shimmering blue sequin jacket of Papa Emeritus IV from Ghost. This project was full of twists, turns, and a little profanity (more on that in a bit). So buckle up, because this ride wasn’t exactly smooth sailing.
Finding the Right Fabric – The Ultimate Treasure Hunt
If you’ve ever tried to source specific sequined fabric, you already know—it’s like hunting for a needle in a glitter-covered haystack. I needed a very particular shade of blue that had the right amount of sparkle and movement without being too stiff or too stretchy. Some sequins look amazing but shed like a disco ball exploding. Others have too much stretch, which distorts the fit.
After weeks of searching, fabric swatches from all over, and some near-breakdowns in the craft store aisles, I finally found the one. A stunning deep blue sequined fabric that had just the right weight and reflection to catch the stage lights. This wasn’t just about aesthetics—this jacket had to look good and move right, keeping that signature Papa Emeritus flair.
Devil’s in the Details – Sleeves, Skulls, and Swearing
The faux leather sleeves were another challenge. Unlike sequins, pleather doesn’t have the same give, meaning every cut had to be precise. No room for error. And, because I don’t do things halfway, I added embroidered skull and crossbones patches to the sleeves—true to the original jacket, adding that extra punch of Ghost’s signature macabre aesthetic.
But here’s where things really get fun.
Inside the jacket, hidden like a little secret rebellion, is a patch that simply says: "FUCK YOU." Yep, it’s there, just as it should be. A little rockstar-level attitude sewn right into the lining. It’s my favorite kind of detail—the kind that makes a piece personal and just a little bit cheeky.
The End Result – A Jacket Fit for a Cardinal of Sin
When everything came together—the high-shine sequins, the structured tailoring, the leather sleeve contrast, the skulls, and the hidden profanity—it was a moment of pure satisfaction. This wasn’t just another commission; it was a labor of love, sweat, and probably a little blood (because sewing with sequins always means stabbing yourself at least once).
Seeing the final jacket, I couldn’t have been prouder. It’s bold, unapologetic, and pure Ghost—just the way it should be.
So, was it worth the fabric-induced meltdowns and all the tiny sequins I’ll be finding around my sewing space for years? Absolutely. And I’d do it all over again.
Until next time—keep creating, keep pushing boundaries, and if your project ever makes you want to scream FUCK YOU, well… maybe just sew it into the lining instead. 😉
Stay spooky,
Katie
